Charles Rasher

Charles Racher
A Lifetime Service Award was made to Charles Rasher in recognition of his dedication and devotion to his family, his country and fifty years service to the copper industry.

Charles Rasher has more than 50 years of metals industry experience, in both the physical markets and in the futures and options markets of the Commodity Exchange, Inc., and its successor, the New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc.

His first job was as a runner for H. Hentz and Company, a large commodities and securities firm but, upon returning home from service in World War II, as a bombardier in the Army Air Corp, he joined the family business, McMahon Iron and Metal Co., a dealer of non-ferrous industrial scrap, and became its president.

In 1961, Mr. Rasher was one of the first scrap dealers to be admitted to the Comex membership, and he is a past president of the New York Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries. Mr. Rasher has also continuously served as a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce National Defense Executive Reserve since 1961.

Prior to the Nymex/Comex merger in 1994, Mr. Rasher was a member of the Comex board of governors. He played an integral role in representing Comex at many industry meetings and functions and was a significant factor in recruiting its commercial membership. He has continued to do the same for the Comex Division since the merger, and continues to serve on the Comex governors committee.
